Cass Lake man pleads guilty to unintentional murder of a child

A Cass Lake man entered a guilty plea Friday to unintentional murder of a child.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded on August 21, 2019, to a home in Inger on report of a 4-year-old that wasn’t breathing and was not responsive.

Kevin Daniel Jackson, 29.

The boy’s mother told police she found her son on the couch, wrapped in blankets and his lips were blue. Paramedics found the boy unresponsive and were unable to revive him.

His injuries were reportedly consistent with strangulation.

The complaint says Jackson and the boy’s mother were using methamphetamine the night before the boy’s death.

According to the plea agreement negotiated by the Itasca County Attorney’s Office, Jackson is expected to receive 15 years in prison at the time of sentencing, scheduled for November.
