$1 million bail for man accused of killing girlfriend, toddler and unborn child

Bail was set at $1 million for a Cloquet man accused of killing 27-year-old Jackie DeFoe, her one-and-a-half-year-old son Kevin, and the unborn child DeFoe was carrying.

Sheldon Thompson, 33, appeared in court yesterday and was charged with three counts of second-degree murder.

According to the criminal complaint, DeFoe suffered multiple stab wounds, and the boy suffered blunt force trauma. The autopsy showed that DeFoe was pregnant and carrying a fetus at 13 weeks gestation.

Thompson was arrested Sunday night, after police found him hiding in the woods in rural Cloquet.

Previous reports indicated that a welfare check was performed at DeFoe’s residence that day, and a search warrant was later obtained to enter the home.

When officers entered the bedrooms of the home on the Fond du Lac reservation, they found DeFoe and her little boy’s bodies.

Thompson will make his next court appearance March 16.
