2021 street renewal public hearing held

The Bemidji City Council held a public hearing on the 2021 street renewal project. Projects on the docket this year include Fern Street from Power Drive to Highway 71, Ash Avenue from Paul Bunyan Drive to 23rd Street, and 26th Street from the dead end west of Delton Avenue to Bemidji Avenue.

The total cost is anticipated to be $1.765 million, with funding sources including various public works funds, $385,000 from the city tax levy, and another $245,000 from street assessments.

Street renewals include rebuilding the road and replacing aging water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure.

The projects will go out to bid within a few weeks, and construction will be between May and September.

Other items of city business discussed during the meeting Monday:

  • Approval of the 2021 legislative priorities, submitted by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities and the League of Minnesota Cities.
  • A memorandum of understanding with Northern Township for accepting sewage from Waville Wastewater Plant.
  • The appointment of Mayor Jorge Prince to Rail Corridor Wellness Complex Development Teach Community Committee.
