Albrecht secures DFL endorsement for Senate

Bemidji Mayor Rita Albrecht received the DFL endorsement as she eyes the Senate District 5 seat.

According to the announcement, over 90 percent of delegates participated in the virtual event, which was held via mail ballots and online.

Albrecht was competing for the DFL endorsement for the district with Charles Dolson.

“Thank you for the outpouring of support shown by the delegates of SD5 as we head into the general election,” said Albrecht in an announcement.

“I also want to thank Charles Dolson for running a positive, issues-oriented campaign.”

Albrecht was first elected mayor of Bemidji in 2012, and served as a Ward 4 representative before that.

Senate District 5 spans from Bemidji to Grand Rapids and includes at least portions of four counties.

Albrecht will be running against current Republican senator for the district Justin Eichorn, who was first elected in 2016.
