ATV rider killed in Spider Lake crash

An ATV rider was killed in a crash in the Spider Lake Recreation Area in the Foothills State Forest.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said that the 54-year-old Center City man left his campsite around 8:30 Saturday morning and was expected to return a short time later.

After about eight hours of searches by the man’s companions and first responders, the missing ATV was found.

The investigation indicates that the rider left the trail at a curve and entered a steep ravine, rolling over.

An autopsy is scheduled and the investigation continues.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by DNR Conservation Officers.
