AUDIO: Fire Chief Justin Sherwood discusses burning restrictions

Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood provided some insight into the new burning restrictions issued by the state.

Sherwood said the department has been extraordinarily busy this week, and fireworks have caused a residential fire earlier this week in Nymore.

The DNR is prohibiting the use of fireworks on public and private land while these burning restrictions are in place, outside of cities, with the jurisdiction of cities within the local fire department’s control.

Sherwood says the Bemidji Fire Department will always follow the recommendations of the DNR, and that the department is ready for wildland fires should the need arise.

Recreational campfires are still permitted, but caution should still be used.
