AUDIO: Minnesota House passes labor budget

The Minnesota House passed its Labor, Industry, Workforce and Business Development Budget Tuesday.

The bill includes earned sick & safe time as well as paid family & medical leave.

The proposal would ensure, at a minimum, one hour of paid Earned Sick & Safe Time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours per year.

It also extends Paid Family & Medical Leave to up to 12 weeks of leave, and the program would be funded through an assessment paid by employers, about $6.25 per week for each employee.

Employers can choose to have workers pay half of the premium amount.

The bill passed the House 69-64.

House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler said next week, after the House passes their versions of the omnibus budget bills, they will meet with Senate leaders to hammer out differences between the two versions before the budget deadline in mid-May.
