Dr. David Wilcox, chief medical officer for Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota, discussed the COVID variants, particularly the Delta variant, making its way through national news headlines.
Wilcox said the COVID-19 variants are a byproduct of the virus’s reproduction, with some variants becoming more effective at spreading and infecting people.
For those who are still not vaccinated against COVID-19, Dr. Wilcox said there is a one in 300 chance of contracting a life-threatening case of COVID-19, while chances of developing a rare side effect from a vaccine are about one in 200,000.
COVID-19 vaccines are available at area pharmacies and through health care providers.
