AUDIO: Sen. Smith bill to support veterans expected to become law

U.S. Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) introduced a bill to assist veterans suffering from cancer get the healthcare they need.

A major bipartisan veterans’ health care package is expected to soon become law and includes Smith’s bill.

Smith says toxic substance exposure is one of the most devastating health problems impacting veterans.

Since 2001, as many as 3.5 million service members have been exposed to toxic substances, including burn pits and Agent Orange.

The bill, according to Smith, eliminates some of the red tape veterans would need to get through to access care through the VA, such as proving that their military service was directly linked to their developed cancer.
