U.S. Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) says a bill she sponsored was signed into law under the omnibus bill.
The Rural MOMS Act aims to provide funding to rural hospitals to keep maternity wards open.
Smith said maternal mortality rates are on the rise in rural areas.
The dollars allocated under this bill are also available for the Indian Health Service, or IHS, hospitals and clinics.
