Bagley man killed in fire

A rural Bagley man was killed in a house fire late Monday night.

According to a release from the Clearwater County SHeriff’s Office, a deputy and a Minnesota State trooper responded to a call of smoke coming from the roof of a house along Highway 92, approximately nine miles south of Bagley, around 10:30 p.m.

The Bagley Fire Department was also on the scene and was able to extinguish the blaze.

The sole occupant of the home, 63-year-old Gerald LaPlaunt was found dead inside the house.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and is assisting with the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled at the University of North Dakota Forensic Pathology Center in Grand Forks.

The Bagley Sanford Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
