Bayport man charged in drive by shooting from almost a year ago

A Bayport man has been charged for a drive by shooting incident from almost a year ago.

According to the criminal complaint, 24-year-old Devon Wayne Solis is accused of shooting at a vehicle near the 300 block of 9th St. NW in Bemidji, within one block of Central Elementary School, on March 18, 2019.

No one was physically injured, according to previous reports and the criminal complaint.

Solis was charged early this month, according to court documents.

Solis was involved with a traffic stop days after the alleged shooting took place, where a Glock .40 caliber handgun was located and seized, because Solis was ineligible to possess a firearm.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension laboratory conducted an analysis, where they matched DNA found on the Glock to Solis, and matched the bullets from the scene to the handgun.

One of the alleged victims stated Solis fired the shots, and were able to recognize him from his facial tattoos.

Unconditional bail was set at $150,000, and he attended a court hearing yesterday, with the next one scheduled in February.
