Beltrami County Board approves 2022 budget and levy

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners approved the budget and levy for 2022.

The levy will increase by 3.96 percent, an increase of just over $27 million.

The levy increase is the lowest in several years, with many of the county’s fiscal problems alleviated through legislative action.

Out of Health and Human Services, for instance, starting on Jan. 1, 2021, the Red Lake Initiative took effect, which transfers the responsibility, fiscally and otherwise, of many out-of-home child placements from the county to the Red Lake Nation.

The county also will receive $14.5 million in American Rescue Plan funding, half of which was already received and the other half will come in 2022.
