Beltrami County Board approves BCHS funding request for Beltrami Bicentennial

The Beltrami County Board approved funding for the Beltrami County Historical Society in their meeting Tuesday.

After hearing a presentation from Executive Director Emily Thabes in their work session, they approved a $7,000 funding request as the museum prepares for an event this summer celebrating the 200th anniversary of Giacomo Beltrami‘s exploration of the area.

Commissioner Tim Sumner commented that while this is not a normal board action, this is a special opportunity, with expected delegations from Beltrami’s homeland in Italy.

The board also approved a Memorandum of Agreement and Resolution around the opioid lawsuits and funding.

In Administrator Tom Barry’s update, he said three congressional funding initiative requests for the jail project, sent to Minnesota’s congressional delegation of Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and Congressman Pete Stauber, will not be moving forward; as well as a denied request for an audience with Governor Tim Walz to talk about the project.
