Beltrami County Board hears updates on Enbridge tax case, COVID

Beltrami County stands to receive a $2.2 million grant from the state to reimburse Enbridge for overcollection in taxes.

This was due to a recent amendment to the state’s tax bill that would give millions of dollars to counties across the state for this tax case.

Beltrami County Administrator Tom Barry said in a meeting Tuesday that the amount is about $11,000 short of what they believe they owe Enbridge.

There are six Enbridge pipelines running through Beltrami County, known as the “Southern Lights” lines.

Cynthia Borgen gave what is likely her last update for the Community Health Board, as she is retiring this summer.

Borgen, in her role as Public Health Director, has overseen COVID response and tracking for the past year and a half.

Borgen says the COVID variants in the news headlines are concerning.

COVID numbers overall have been on the decline, as the older populations which were more susceptible to severe symptoms are overwhelmingly vaccinated against COVID.
