The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners approved a letter to the state department of human services that refuses to pay back almost $87,000 in overpayments to the state.
According to Beltrami County Health and Human Services Director Becky Secore, the state underestimated payments from 2014 to 2019.
The payments are related to substance use disorder treatments, and many counties across the state are standing together in refusal to repay.
The county’s Health and Human services department could possibly face another revenue shortfall in the future, with new legislation requiring higher levels of background checks for many different positions in group homes or other residential treatment settings.
