Beltrami County discusses deferring property taxes

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners discussed their financial position during their work session Tuesday afternoon.

County Auditor-Treasurer JoDee Treat said that while they and the taxing jurisdictions within the county may be able to accommodate a tax payment deferral to some area businesses affected by the pandemic, they do not have the authority to change the deadline on May 15.

Also during the work session, Public Health Director Cynthia Borgen clarified the amount of COVID-19 cases reported by Sanford versus how many we have in the county.

Sanford Bemidji has tested numerous people from other counties as well, and while they have found seven positives, only six of those live in Beltrami County.

On a report of Monday’s Bemidji City Council, the article indicated that there were seven positive cases in Beltrami County. The article has since been corrected.
