Beltrami County Historical Society announces new director

Emily Thabes was recently named the newest director of the Beltrami County Historical Society.

Thabes holds two master’s degrees, one in library information science and another in interdisciplinary leadership. Thabes also has 20 years of experience in nonprofit and education leadership.

“I am honored to accept this opportunity to serve the residents of Beltrami County through leadership of BCHS and the History Center,” Thabes said in a release.

“The Historical Society’s board and volunteers passionately bring to life the deep and broad history and traditions of Beltrami County.”

Thabes most recently worked with the Hennepin County Management Institute, Capital One Bank and Rasmussen College.

Thabes has been a Minnesota resident for the last ten years, and lives on a farm near Bagley with her husband.

Her experience in education, leadership, programming, managing collections, and grant writing should help BCHS to move forward with their goals of “research, archiving, programming, outreach, and preserving history in Bemidji, Beltrami County and greater Minnesota.”

Additionally, BCHS is seeking volunteers, sponsors and board members. Anyone interested in serving, donating or connecting can contact Thabes at 444-3376 or email.
