The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is once again warning of scam calls impersonating law enforcement.
An area resident reported they received a call from someone who provided a name and badge number of an actual deputy.
The impersonator was reportedly aggressive when confronted by the vigilant resident about no notice of any court appearances or warrants.
Sheriff Ernie Beitel said the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, and most law enforcement agencies, do not call people and attempt to satisfy warrants or collect bail over the phone.
Beitel says scammers have the ability to “spoof” or mislead caller identification on the receiving phone and advises never to call a number given by a potential scammer.
