The Bemidji City Council appears to be in consensus to accept Northern Township’s intent to withdraw from the Joint Planning Board.
During their work session Monday, the council and staff discussed some of the timelines needed to move zoning and planning back into city-only jurisdiction.
Several ordinances establishing the new board and commission would need to go through three readings at regular council meetings, and the financial split would also take considerable time.
Mayor Jorge Prince commented that he believes “the JPB has run its course.”
No formal action was taken at the work session, with staff directed to also continue dialogue with Northern Township.
