Bemidji City Council tables animal ordinance, forms committee

The Bemidji City Council heard from County Commissioner Reed Olson in their meeting Monday as a citizen with business. Olson expressed concern about families facing homelessness with the upcoming vacate date for one of the Ridgeway Apartment buildings.

Olson, who is also the executive director for the Nameless Coalition for the Homeless, emphasized that the homelessness support networks do not have the space for a large and sudden influx of people.

In their regular meeting, the council held the public hearing on the animal ordinance and heard a few comments.

The council voted to table the matter and then voted to form an animal ordinance committee to review the entire ordinance concerning pets inside city limits.

Council members Lynn Eaton and Emelie Rivera will serve on this new committee, with council member Dan Jourdain serving as an alternate.
