Bemidji City Council to discuss orderly annexation during work session

The Bemidji City Council will further discuss entering into an orderly annexation agreement with Northern Township after a request from Ruttger’s Birchmont Lodge to extend city water and sewer services.

The city council met with the township board last week to discuss proposals.

Orderly annexation could go one of three ways, which is scheduled to be discussed during this evening’s work session.

After the extension of the water and sewer mains to the Ruttger’s property, annexation would occur either immediately or when property owners along the extension opt to connect in for the services.

Another option is referred to as a “flag lot” annexation, where only Ruttger’s would be annexed in, but it has a high cost for one utility customer.

Residential connection to city services costs about $12,000 for the property owner.
