Bemidji Fire responds to two devastating house fires Sunday

The Bemidji Fire Department responded to two serious house fires Sunday.

Around 10 that morning, 19 firefighters responded to the 7100 block of Balsam Road and were on the scene for about five hours.

The home and contents sustained major damage, with damages estimated to be near $200,000.

Firefighters were able to enter the home and locate the fire on the main floor.

Two dogs died as a result of the blaze.

Around 7 that evening, 18 firefighters responded to the 400 block of Whisperwood Court and found a single-story house fully engulfed in flames.

Four firefighters suffered injuries in this blaze and a pet also perished.

The home and contents are considered a total loss.

Both fires are currently under investigation but are thought to be accidental.
