Bemidji High School one of dozens of schools hoaxed by “swatting”

Bemidji High School was one of many schools across the nation hoaxed with what is called “swatting.”

According to a release, BHS was in a “secure” mode around 2 p.m. Wednesday after an anonymous call indicated an active shooting situation at the school.

The hoax that impacted at least a dozen schools across Minnesota yesterday was reported in several other states just last week, where the anonymous caller reported an active shooter in the school with the presumed intent to produce a significant and swift law enforcement presence.

The release from Bemidji Schools says the training and collaboration with local law enforcement over the last few years were evident in the response, which included additional staff and law enforcement presence.
