Bemidji man killed in crash

A Bemidji man died in a crash on Paul Bunyan Drive Friday night.

The state patrol says 25-year-old Richard Leif Erickson continued straight on a slight curve in the southbound lane near mile marker 3 and struck a stoplight on the west side of the street.

Erickson was not wearing a seat belt and law enforcement believes he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Sanford Health is listed as a health care facility but the report didn’t specify whether Erickson died at the hospital or on the scene.

The Bemidji Police Department and Bemidji Ambulance Service assisted on the scene around 11:15 p.m. Friday.

The crash remains under investigation, according to Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow.
