Bemidji Speech Coach reaches “diamond” status, top speakers compete nationally

Assistant Bemidji High School Speech Coach Anna Hamann received her first coaching diamond from the National Speech and Debate Association.

Head coach Tom Lucas recently achieved double diamond status, so both were recognized during a ceremony Sunday night.

Lucas has been coaching BHS Speakers since 2006, and Hamann has since 2008.

Beginning today, BHS Speaker Amy Frenzel is competing in the National Speech and Debate Association’s National Tournament in Extemporaneous Speaking.

The event is hosted virtually from Des Moines, Iowa.

BHS Speaker Maya Lindquist is also competing in Prose, a supplemental category to this competition.

This author is an assistant coach for the BHS Speech Team and is an alumna of the program. Tom Lucas is an on-air host on 95.5 KZY, an affiliate radio station to this website.
