Bemidji Veterans Home on track

BEMIDJI– The Northern Minnesota veterans home is on track to be completed in early 2022.

During a meeting with Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Larry Herke, the department presented some revised design elements to bring the home under budget, but Herke assured the task force that the basic desired elements will remain.

The meeting was intended for the task force and media, with a larger, more public meeting on the veterans home expected in December or January.

The state legislature approved over $10 million for the project in 2018, which will be paid for by a combination of federal grants, state bonds and local contributions.

The funding by the federal government is not expected to be confirmed until early 2020.
