Bemidji woman awaits sentencing on neglect, abuse charges

A Bemidji woman awaits sentencing for assaulting and neglecting a vulnerable adult.

According to court documents, 47-year-old Karen Marie Gannetta pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic assault and one count of criminal neglect earlier this month, and sentencing is scheduled for next week.

Gannetta, according to the complaint, was the parent and personal care worker of the vulnerable adult, and detectives found the victim underweight, malnourished and severely dehydrated.

During the forensic assessment, a practitioner found bruising consistent with abuse and neglect, pressure ulcers, and that the victim could no longer walk.

Criminal neglect has a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
