Bemidji woman killed in Polk County crash

A Bemidji woman was killed and another was injured after a crash in Polk County last week.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 21-year-old Hazel Buckanaga was southbound on Highway 75 early Wednesday morning around 2 a.m. when she left the roadway and hit a culvert.

Buckanaga was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene, with no health care facility listed.

Buckanaga’s passenger, 21-year-old Aiyana White, was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the Altru Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The state patrol believes alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Crookston Police and Area Ambulance, and Climax Fire Department assisted at the scene.
