Bena woman arrested in connection with fatal fire

A Bena woman is in custody after human remains were found inside a burning camper trailer.

According to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, the 911 center received multiple calls about the fire of an occupied trailer on Allens Bay Drive SE near Cass Lake.

Upon arrival to the camper, with the assistance of Leech Lake Tribal Police and Cass Lake Fire Department, the fire was extinguished and the human remains were found.

The investigation indicates that a woman fled the scene after igniting the fire7 Tuesday night around 7 p.m.

The female suspect was arrested Wednesday in Brooklyn Center.

The victim’s body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification.
