Bliss criticizes Persell on HF 8 & HF 9 votes

The Minnesota House took votes on two items related to firearms last Thursday, and a former representative for this area took notice.

According to a release sent just minutes after the vote on universal background checks and red flag laws, Matt Bliss, a Republican from Pennington, harshly criticized current representative John Persell, a DFL-er from Bemidji, for voting in favor of the two bills.

Bliss said,  “These anti-gun bills Rep. Persell voted for create strict new hurdles and barriers for law-abiding Minnesotans, violate our constitutional rights and will do nothing to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals.” Persell responded, saying he owns firearms himself, but law abiding gun carriers will not be negatively affected.

The two bills passed on the House floor, but have little to no chance of passing in the Republican-held Senate.
