Boys and Girls Club of Bemidji Area announces reopening

The Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area will reopen its after-school program to children and teens on a limited basis effective Sept. 14, with the start of the Bemidji Area school year.

According to a release, all Club members must be registered to attend and no drop-in attendance will be available under COVID-19 protocols.

Attendance will be limited to students from J.W. Smith, Central, Schoolcraft, Gene Dillon, Bemidji Middle School, Bemidji High School, Trek North and Voyageurs Expeditionary, as these schools have historically had the highest attendance rates.

“We regret that we cannot serve all schools in this initial re-opening,” said Andrea Kent, executive director.

“These are unprecedented times, and we have had to make difficult decisions as we focus on meeting our mission of serving children, while also reducing the risk of spreading the virus.”

Priority applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on September 3. Families will be notified on September 4 whether their child has been accepted, as space is limited. Fees are $125 for 1-7 grade club members, and $25 for 8-12 grade club members.

“We are excited to re-open this fall and to welcome teens back into the building,” said Kent. “Our staff have missed our Club members and look forward to working with many of them again.”

Registration forms and more information is available at the Club’s website.
