Cass County man enters guilty plea in federal court to illegal firearms possession

A Cass County man pleaded guilty to illegal possession of an unregistered firearm.

U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger says 44-year-old John Jones entered the plea Tuesday in Minneapolis on one count of illegal possession of a short-barreled shotgun.

Court documents say Jones brought the firearm to the Cedar Lakes Casino in July 2021 and hid it behind a garbage can along with a plastic bag containing shotgun shells and a knife.

Jones has prior felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing guns or ammo. His sentencing date has not yet been announced.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Leech Lake Tribal Police conducted the investigation.
