Cass County man sentenced to 23 years for criminal sex acts on children

A Cass County man was sentenced to over 23 years in prison for performing criminal sexual acts on three children.

According to a release from the Cass County’s Attorney’s Office, Richard Wilson, Jr., pleaded guilty in court Thursday and was sentenced immediately afterwards.

According to the complaint, law enforcement was investigating the production of child pornography in 2015 and discovered evidence of Wilson committing sexual acts with young children.

Wilson, according to Cass County Attorney Ben Lindstrom, will be subject to a ten-year conditional release period when he is released from prison, and will be a registered predatory offender for the rest of his life.

He may also be civilly committed into a secure hospital facility as a sexually dangerous person when released from prison.

Wilson was prosecuted federally for the child pornography and sentenced to 25 years, while the Cass County case was focused on the actual acts committed against these children.

Both sentences will be executed concurrently, or at the same time. Wilson began serving his federal sentence in 2017.
