Cass Lake man convicted with third-degree murder in fatal drug overdose trial

A Beltrami County jury delivered a guilty verdict in the four-day trial of Clyde Reyes this week.

The Beltrami County Attorney’s Office says 31-year-old Reyes was convicted of third-degree murder through selling fentanyl in 2022.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an unresponsive female who had possibly overdosed. The victim, identified in court records as “A. J.,” was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation by the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force concluded that Reyes had sold the fatal dose of fentanyl to the victim earlier that day.

This is the second third-degree murder conviction for the sale of fentanyl in as many months.

Reyes will be sentenced on July 27.
