Celebrating the Monarch

The City of Bemidji will celebrate Monarch Butterflies this month with a kick off event tomorrow.

According to Bemidji State University Sustainability Director Erika Bailey-Johnson, a virtual event will begin at 9 tomorrow morning.

Bailey-Johnson says the best way to help the Monarch is to mow less frequently and not all the way to their wood lines or shorelines.

Milkweed is one of the only plants in our area that the Monarch will lay its eggs on, which the caterpillars will eat before their transformation.
