Charges pending on suspect in fatal hit-and-run near Waskish

The suspect driver in a fatal hit-and-run near Waskish Memorial Day has apparently been identified.

Formal charges are pending and officials have not yet named the suspect.

The victim was previously identified by the state patrol but just confirmed Tuesday by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office as 58-year-old Shaun O’Malley of Kelliher.

Sheriff Ernie Beitel says thanks to the public’s help, the suspect was identified.

Beitel also acknowledged help from numerous law enforcement agencies across northern Minnesota.

Highway 72 near Waskish was closed for several hours on Memorial Day during the on-scene investigation.
