City Council approves 2020 street renewal project, homeowner renovation assistance grant

In addition to setting a date for a Ward 2 special election last Monday, the Bemidji City Council approved other items.

The 2020 Street Renewal Project was approved after a public hearing.

The annual street renewal projects are paid for with a street tax levy, utility funds and assessments and this year, will reconstruct almost a mile and a half of city streets.

The council also approved an application to the Minnesota Small Cities Development Program, which involves grant dollars for homeowner rehabilitation in Bemidji’s “old town,” described as being from 8th to 15th Streets and from Irvine to Norton Avenues.

If the application is approved, this would be the 10th time the city has been awarded these grant dollars.
