City Council to discuss Rail Corridor in tonight’s work session

The Bemidji City Council will discuss two Rail Corridor-related items during their work session this evening.

The council will consider a site analysis agreement with Sanford Health and the Greater Bemidji Development Corporation, as well as a memorandum of understanding with Kraus Anderson.

Sanford Health hopes to build a Wellness Center in the city-owned land within the Rail Corridor, south of Bemidji’s downtown.

The Wellness Center is proposed to include two new sheets of ice, a swimming pool, and a number of other amenities as a community recreation center.

The site analysis will cover both geotechnical and environmental aspects of the site, such as soil structural capacity and contamination.

The analysis will cost over $300,000, split between Sanford Health and the City.

Any findings of the analysis, no matter the ultimate development of the site, would belong to the city, according to the drafted agreement.

The partners would also update the Response Action, or clean up, Plan for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and would also seek grant funding from Minnesota DEED.
