Community spread likely in Beltrami County

Community spread of COVID-19 is likely here in Beltrami County.

According to an update yesterday evening from Beltrami County’s COVID-19 Response Team, six additional positive cases were confirmed yesterday, in addition to the seven confirmed over the weekend, with more results pending.

The update says some of the confirmed positive cases participated in softball and volleyball leagues.

Beltrami’s Public Health Director Cynthia Borgen says that while some of the new positives were linked to known travel, there is evidence there is more COVID activity than just the identified cluster, as some new cases have not been linked to the COVID positive “social group” first reported over the weekend.

There is generally a two- to three-day delay from when local public health departments are aware of a COVID case to when the new cases are reported on the Minnesota Department of Health website.
