MnDOT says construction on Highway 1 east of Red Lake will begin this month.
The project includes culvert replacements and turn lane improvements between Red Lake and Reservation Highway 18.
Drivers can expect staged detours, bypass lanes and lane closures.
Red Lake Builders is the contractor for the project that will include resurfacing next year.
Once complete, MnDOT says the highway will be a safer road with improved drainage and safer intersections.
