COVID updates for Friday, Oct. 1

Six area schools were listed as having five or more COVID-19 cases among students and staff within a two-week reporting period.

In north-central Minnesota, these schools include: Blackduck Secondary, Cass Lake-Bena Middle School, Bagley Elementary, Bagley Secondary, Nevis Elementary, and Park Rapids Century Elementary.

The Minnesota Department of Health says the schools may not have ongoing transmission and will be removed from the list, updated each Thursday, if no new cases are reported for 28 days.

Laporte 6th through 12th graders will move to distance learning for one week due to COVID.

The Park Rapids Enterprise reported Wednesday that five Laporte School staff members are out with COVID.

The move to distance learning is staff-related, as the infections have largely been in the middle and high school portion of the building.

Laporte kindergarteners and elementary students will continue in-person learning. Laporte’s school district serves between 300 and 350 students.

Of the 2,874 new cases reported across the state Thursday, 74 were in Beltrami County, 32 were in Cass County, 20 were in Clearwater County, and 29 were in Hubbard County.

Beltrami Public Health reported Thursday 472 new cases were reported in the county in the last 14 days, with 346 cases still active.

Of the 3,714 new cases reported in the state Friday, 82 were in Beltrami County, 45 were in Cass County, 24 were in Clearwater County, and 30 were in Hubbard County.
