COVID updates for Friday, Sept. 24

Local health officials are monitoring a growing number of COVID-19 cases.

According to Beltrami County Public Health Director Megan Heuer, as of this morning, there were 314 active cases of COVID within the county.

COVID patients are occupying 16 hospital beds within the county, with 10 of those patients being Beltrami County residents.

On Monday, Heuer reported 215 active cases and 14 hospitalizations in Beltrami County.

Beltrami County Public Health is reporting the highest active case rate since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 2,434 new COVID cases across the state Thursday and 24 new deaths.

One of the deaths was a Cass County resident in their early 80s.

Three of Thursday’s reported deaths occurred earlier than September, with one in Dec. 2020, one in Jan. 2021, and another in Aug. 2021.

Of all cases reported Thursday, 64 were in Beltrami County, 18 were in Cass County, 17 were in Clearwater County, and 19 were in Hubbard County.

On Friday, MDH reported 2,997 new COVID cases and 27 new deaths.

Of cases reported Friday, 72 were in Beltrami County, 29 were in Cass County, 21 were in Clearwater County, and 14 were in Hubbard County.

Since the pandemic began, Beltrami County has had 5,346 cases and 72 deaths, Cass County has had 3,555 cases and 36 deaths, Clearwater County has had 1,092 cases and 18 deaths, and Hubbard County has had 2,419 cases and 41 deaths.
