COVID updates for Wednesday, Aug. 18

More than 3,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Minnesota Tuesday, the most reported in a single day since last December.

Twenty-one of those cases were Beltrami County residents, 21 were Cass County residents, and one was a Clearwater resident.

There are nearly 9,000 active COVID-19 cases across the state.

More than 7,000 fully vaccinated Minnesotans have had what is called a “breakthrough” COVID infection, largely linked to the delta variant over other strains.

MDH’s Kris Ehresmann says the vaccines are still doing their job at preventing serious disease, hospitalizations and deaths.

Gov. Walz extended the $100 vaccination incentive program through Aug. 22.

Anyone who got their first shot from July 30 through that date can claim their $100 visa gift card at mn.gov/covid19/100.
