COVID updates for Wednesday, Dec. 8

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 12,445 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

Tuesday data generally includes information gathered over the weekend, as well as from Monday.

Beltrami County reported 82 new cases, Cass County 46 new cases, Clearwater County 16 new cases and Hubbard County reported 35 new cases.

Forty-five new COVID deaths were also reported by MDH.

One death was a Beltrami County resident in their late 80s and one was a Clearwater resident in their late 60s.

Gov. Tim Walz announced Tuesday that more than 25 percent of children aged 5 through 11 were vaccinated for COVID-19 in the first month since they’ve been eligible.

Minnesota is the first state in the Midwest to have the rate in the age group and sixth in the nation.

MDH reported 3,140 new COVID cases and 75 new deaths Wednesday.

One of those deaths was a Beltrami County resident in their late 30s, and another was a Beltrami resident in their late 40s.

Of the new cases reported Wednesday, 11 were in Beltrami County, 15 were in Cass County, four were in Clearwater County and four were in Hubbard County.

Since the pandemic began, Beltrami County has had 8,378 cases and 103 deaths, Cass County has had 5,132 cases and 56 deaths, Clearwater County has had 1,618 cases and 22 deaths, and Hubbard County has had 3,639 cases and 49 deaths.
