The DNR is conducting chronic wasting disease sampling in the surveillance zones that include deer permit areas 110, 184, 197 and a portion of 169.
According to a release, sampling stations, either staffed or self-service will be available for the firearms deer season opener Nov. 5-7.
A self-service sampling station will be available throughout all deer seasons at the Bemidji area wildlife office.
Hunters should call the Bemidji office to notify them when a sample has been dropped off or if they have questions.
Hunters who harvest deer in the surveillance zone can make an appointment for mandatory sampling at the Park Rapids or Grand Rapids wildlife offices.
Free, mail-in kits are available to hunters throughout Minnesota whether or not they hunt in a CWD zone, with some taxidermists also participating in the DNR’s sampling program to collect CWD samples.
