Deer River man killed in crash

A 25-year-old Deer River man was killed in a crash last Friday.

The state patrol says Jacob Starck lost control of his ’96 Saturn on Highway 46 and entered the wrong lane.

The Saturn collided with a northbound Toyota Tundra in a t-bone crash.

Starck was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads were snowy and icy at the time of the crash, around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

The Tundra occupants were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the Essentia-Deer River hospital.

The Deer River Police, Fire and EMS; Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, Meds 1 and MnDOT assisted at the scene.
