Deer surveys start next week

BEMIDJI– Bemidji State University biology professor Dr. Jacob Haus and his students will begin spotlight roadside deer surveys on Monday, Oct. 21st.

Time and weather permitting, these surveys will be conducted in three areas in a BSU vehicle with the hazard lights on.

The group will work in the northeast Lake Bemidji area near Lake Avenue, in Ward 4 on 23rd street, and areas adjacent to the Bemidji Regional Airport.

They will not conduct these surveys on Halloween night, and on other evenings, they are expected to begin at sunset until about 9 p.m.

The surveys should be complete by Wednesday, Nov. 6th. While this activity is typically illegal, residents are asked not to interfere or disrupt the surveys, and contacting law enforcement is not necessary.
