Department of Justice awards almost $4 million to local tribes

The Department of Justice has awarded over $4.5 million dollars to Minnesota tribes, as part of grants designed to improve public safety, serve victims of crime, combat violence against women and support youth programming in American Indian Communities.

The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe will receive over $800,000, the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians will receive over $1.5 million, and the White Earth Reservation tribal council will receive almost $1.5 million.
