The Bemidji Area Church Musicians announces the 34th season of the Summer Recital Series. The first four recitals will be videoed and posted for viewing on Facebook page: BACMusicians or YouTube channel: BemidjiACM at 12:00 noon every Wednesday, beginning June 2, 2021. The recitals will all be archived and available on the YouTube channel. Beginning June 30, the remaining recitals will be live and in person. We are looking forward to a return to some normalcy in the recital schedule.
Throughout the summer, recitals will feature our fine Bemidji church musicians, with presentations by a wide variety of performers. The schedule will be announced week by week in the area media and the entire summer schedule will be available at the area churches. The BACM committee reserves the right to change the schedule as may be needed. The information is also available on the Bemidji Chamber of Commerce website.
The 2020 Scholarship recipients will perform the first recital set for June 2. The performers are Madelyne Schutte, Gwendoline Young, Britta Aas, and Trevor Loewe. Their video will be aired on June 2.
Thirteen recitals are planned featuring musicians who serve regularly in several of the Bemidji churches, or guests with a connection to one of the churches. Four of these will be virtual. The remainder, beginning June 30, will be in person and a luncheon is planned at each of the churches following the recital. There will be a charge for the luncheon.
For the past more than twenty-five years, free-will offerings given at recitals have been used to grant scholarships to students beginning their college music career. The students make application and must demonstrate their involvement in church music and prepare an audition recording. The award this year is $1000 applied to their second semester of college. The award may be extended to a second year, contingent upon the student performing in a recital in the summer series and giving evidence of successful college work and music study.
Bemidji Area Church Musicians has never charged for the concerts, however, a donation is requested. BACM provides college scholarships for college students majoring in music; church fellowships to secondary education students majoring in music and organ scholarships to young students currently studying piano that receive instructor recommendation.
